The National Liar’s Hall of Fame in Dannebrog; Chalk Mines near Scotia; Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park, Nebraska’s Big Rodeo and Calamus Reservoir, all near Burwell. Valentine includes Fort Niobrara and the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge; Smith Falls State Park boasts Nebraska’s highest water fall along with the Niobrara National Scenic River, which is one of the top 10 canoeing rivers in the U.S. One can make this trip to Hill City in one day from Lincoln but could spend the night in the towns of Burwell, Bassett, and Valentine, all of which have good choices of motels and camping areas.
