The Spider Ride

Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us for the COG 2026 Spider Ride. Once again, ride headquarters will be at the Huzzah Valley Resort (Pavilion #2). The Huzzah Valley Resort (Map) is located approximately 8 miles east of Steelville, Missouri on MO-Route 8 at the Huzzah Creek (Big Red Barn).

Note: In past years, many rally attendees have arrived and set up camp on Thursday. While I also plan to arrive on Thursday, please note that the rally officially begins on Friday.

Camping

For 2026 we will once again have our campground located near the grassy area around the larger Pavilion #2 (red circle on left side of the illustration below - click on map for a larger image). This will allow everyone who is camping or staying in one of the cabins to be in the same space. This move will bring everyone easier and closer access to meals and the evening campfire. All meals will again be served at pavilion #2. Please pay your camping fee (~$16.50 + tax/night) at the OFFICE upon arrival. New flush toilets and pay showers are available and close to this camping area.

Lodging
Huzzah Valley has cabins for rent. Check their website (https://huzzahvalley.com) or call (1-800-367-4516) for more information and availability. There are also motels close by in Cuba and Potosi, Missouri.

Riding
Pretty damn good! That's why we're here. Maps and routes will be available. See example routes below.

Food (check back this summer for final details)

For 2026, all dinners (including Saturday) will be served in Pavilion #2
Friday Evening - Burgers & Brats, baked beans and potato salad
Saturday Evening - Pork steaks, baked potato, corn on the cob, side salad, and apple cobbler

Friday, Saturday & Sunday morning - Coffee and breakfast sandwiches
All weekend - Soft drinks will be provided

Call for Volunteers

How does the saying go... many hands make light work. COG is a 100% volunteer run organization, and that includes the Spider Ride. During registration you will have the opportunity to raise your hand if you're willing to help (e.g., food preparation, servers, KP duty/cleanup). Please consider volunteering to help with some aspect of the rally.

Here's the itinerary:

Monday, September 21, 2026 – Meet at the Tim Hortons coffee shop in Cranbrook, BC, at noon. Remember that Cranbrook is in Mountain Time. We will leave Cranbrook at 1:00 p.m. and head to Jesal's house in Calgary.

We will take Highway 93 to Radium, where we will fuel up before heading over the pass. Depending on the range of the machines in our group, we could fuel up again in Canmore or at the Stoney Nakoda Resort.

It's 4.5 hours of riding time plus stops. We will get to the house around 6:00 p.m. or so. There is a nearby plaza where we can get dinner, a 7-minute walk away.

Tuesday, September 22, and Wednesday, September 23 – We will do day rides from Calgary, either Drumheller or Banff. Depending on the weather, we will choose which day to do each ride.

Day Ride – Drumheller

Leave the house by 8:00 a.m. Ride prairie roads for two hours from Calgary to Drumheller, AB.

Visit Horseshoe Canyon, stop at Tim Hortons for a coffee break, then continue to the Star Mine, Hoodoos, the Suspension Bridge, and the Eleven Bridges to Wayne, where we will have lunch at the Last Chance Saloon.

At 2:00 p.m., visit the Royal Tyrell Museum for two hours. Ride to see Horsethief Canyon, take the Bleriot Ferry across the Red Deer River, and then loop back to the town of Drumheller.

Dinner at Yavis Family Restaurant in Drumheller before the ride back to Calgary, or we could ride back to Calgary to have dinner.

Day Ride – Banff

After breakfast at the house, we will do a day trip to Banff. Ride Highway 1A past Ghost Lake to Canmore, then Highway 1 to Banff (1.5 hours, 115 km).

Our day in Banff should be pre-planned by having a conversation with those who are coming on this trip to see which attractions folks want to prioritize. Tickets for some attractions come with specific time slots, so that will inform the planning for the rest of the day.

Lunch and dinner locations are TBD; there are plenty of great options. Back to Jesal's house in Calgary for the night.

Thursday, September 24 – After breakfast at the house, we head to Cranbrook for the night.

From Calgary, we take Highway 22 (Cowboy Trail) south to Highway 3. Stops include Lundbreck Falls and the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre. If we want a longer day, and if Highway 40 is open, we can add two hours to the day by riding Highwood Pass in the morning.

Lunch at Cinnamon Bear Café in Coleman. Then continue through Sparwood and Fernie to Cranbrook for the night.

Dinner: TBD.

Junkyard Ride

Join us on Saturday, September 26 for a ride to the Junkyard Bar. We'll meet at the Holiday Station Store located on Manning Ave N, just north of I94 at 9:00 a.m., departing about 20 minutes later. The ride will travel along the Saint Croix River Valley and into Wisconsin with a unique lunch stop at the Junkyard Bar east of Siren. It's an actual junkyard filled with all things related to automotive, motorcycle, and advertising with a bar and restaurant in the middle of it all. It's worth a google search.

Come join us for a fall lunch in Fishkill, NY at one of the finest Mexican restaurants in the state (my opinion). Maya Café & Cantina is conveniently located just south of I-84 and also accessible from the scenic and the legendary twisty Route 301.

There is ample parking and we will meet at 11:00 in anticipation of a 11:30 sit down time.

Hopefully the weather cooperates for some end of season two wheel therapy, but cage it if you have to. The food is worth it.

After more than two months of back-and-forth, we finally received a response from the Motel Montreal. Unfortunately, they would not hold a block of rooms without a 50% up-front deposit, so there is no reserved room block for this event. Rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important - How to Receive the COG Rate

To receive the special Concours Owners Group (COG) rate, do not simply book online or through the normal reservation process.

Join us - and bring a friend - for a relaxed COG meet & greet on Sunday, October 4th, held in conjunction with the Slimey Crud Run (SCR).

Event Plan

9:00 - 9:30 a.m. - Meet at the Slimey Crud Run in Pine Bluff, WI (just west of Madison). Look for the green COG banner near the Cross Plains Town / Pine Bluff Hall & Community Center.
Spend the morning checking out bikes, chatting, and enjoying the SCR atmosphere.
~11:00 a.m. - Ride together to The Arena Diner (formerly Grandma Mary's Cafe) in Arena, WI for lunch.
After lunch, you're welcome to continue to Leland, WI (about 30-minute ride), the SCR's traditional afternoon meet-up location.

Lunch-Only Option

Can't make the Slimey Crud Run? No problem - feel free to meet us at The Arena Diner around 11:45 a.m. for lunch and conversation.

This meet & greet is a great chance to enjoy COG camaraderie, talk about favorite rides and upcoming events, and share ideas for future get-togethers.

First Sunday of every month! Meet at the Landing Zone Cafe at 8:30am for optional breakfast. KSU (kickstands up) at 9:30am. Please be fueled up!

We will be riding in the Lake Elsinore, Temecula, Fallbrook and Pala Areas in general. We may ride the Palomar mountains if time permits. Fun morning with total ride time about 3 hours. Usually home by 1pm. All the roads are fun with many twisty turns in good conditions. We ride safe and enjoy taking turns leading the group!

Join us for the 32nd running of The Hunt for Red October - Wisconsin's largest and most anticipated ride of the season! This annual tradition brings together riders for a weekend of great roads, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories in the heart of southwestern Wisconsin's Driftless Area.

Friday Night Arrival (Optional) - October 9

If you're arriving Friday night, plan to gather at the Don Q Inn in Dodgeville, WI. We'll likely order a few pizzas and pass the hat to cover costs - just a casual way to kick off the weekend with good company.

Saturday Ride & Meetup - October 10

If you can't make it Friday night, no worries - join us Saturday between 12:00 - 1:00 PM at the:

We'll grab lunch together before breaking into smaller ride groups for an afternoon exploring scenic backroads. All routes lead back to the Don Q Inn, where we'll cap off the day with a catered banquet dinner and prize drawings.

Just want to check things out?

Unable to commit the full weekend? That's totally fine. If you're curious about the event - or just want to meet some fellow riders - stop by the Sparta Family Restaurant between noon and 1:00 pm on Saturday. It's a great chance to grab lunch with the group, put faces to names, swap stories, kick a few tires, and maybe even tag along for part of the afternoon ride. No pressure - just good people, good roads, and an easy way to see what COG events are all about.

These routes were prepared in Garmin Basecamp but have not been test-ridden this year. Download and ride them as-is.

The oldest Florida Diner serves good size portions at a reasonable price. It's at the west side of the bridge on Hwy 20. Inside eating or outside if you desire to stay with your vehicle.

Nearby St Augustine, also hwys 19 & 17. Easy to get to the Atlantic Beach, Ormond Beach, or Ocala. Nearby, you can swim with dolphins at Marineland, ride a horse on the beach in Crescent Beach, visit Fort Matanzas or numerous other nearby sites.

This will be a COG Meet 'n' Greet event, wear some COG gear if you have it so we will know you. Everyone will be responsible for their own check. Please register and that way we will be able to make a reservation with a head count and lessen the wait time for a table. Reata Alpine's Dinner Menu

Since this is an evening event it is strongly suggested that participants secure lodging in town and not attempt to ride home after the event. I will be staying at the Highland Inn on the east side of town and probably making the 15 minute walk to the restaurant from there.

Black Range/Gila National Forest Meet-N-Greet

Meet-N-Greet - Meet at Lakeview RV Park (I-25, exit 63); folks are coming from Albuquerque and El Paso if you want to join for the interstate ride. We'll take highway 152 west, stopping at Emory Pass for the obligatory mountain view picture, then continue on to San Lorenzo. From there we will turn north and do the Lake Roberts loop on county roads 35 and 15, stopping in Silver City for an authentic Mexican lunch at the Jalisco Cafe. Return trip is either highway 152 east, passing to the north to the famous Chino Copper Mine, or the Alburquerque folks may continue on through Alpine and Springerville, AZ before returning home. Don Garlit's Museum is packed full of fun machines and related items. Please visit their website (https://garlits.com), as they have a plethora of information that should answer almost all questions, especially regarding admission and tours. Time permitting, we may even check out the building next door.

Admission varies (Adult, Veteran, 1st Responder, Seniors). They offer afternoon tours if there are 10-15 attendees interested in a "more information and behind-the-scenes" type of experience. Again, please refer to their website for details.

Lunch will be prior to the museum visit and is located within a mile of the museum. The museum is very visible from I-75. Highways and roads nearby are city, county, and state paved. The Ocala National Forest has many unpaved roads.

I-75, Hwy 301, and Hwy 441 run basically north to south.

A little Blazer Pub History:
The Blazer Pub takes its name from a term coined in western Ireland in the late 1800s by a group of enthusiastic foxhunters and their hounds. After a day's work, these hunters would gather in a temporary hut or shack to celebrate their hard-earned bounty. When the merriment ended, they set fire to the hut and watched while it blazed and burned down, thus enjoying the glow of the Galway "Blazer." While the name has been around since the 1800s, the building was constructed in 1928, serving as a rest stop along Route 22. The owners sold hot dogs to weary travelers right out of the front window. By the early 1950's, the rest area was fully converted into a restaurant and tavern. The Blazer Pub was first opened in 1971 by Tom and Emer Heavey. In April of 1988, Richard and Rita O'Leary purchased the business from the Heavey family.

Beat the Heat SE, Gathering for 2026 and 2025 at the Big Lynn Lodge were so well received, it has been set up for another year. Let's convene at 5:00 (or so) on 8/5/2027 for more riding and fun. Full dinner and breakfasts are included with your room (and it's good food), whether there are one or two of you. Some rooms have two beds, some have only one. We'll have the parkway side rooms because the parking is much flatter for motorcycles. There are 14 rooms blocked off, so don't delay in making your phone call to the Lodge at 828-765-4257. For a better chance of getting what you want, mention the COG room block and do not reserve ONLINE.
