23rd Annual Volcano Ride 2020 Three Pass Blast Covid Special Edition [WA]

  • 08/29/2020
  • 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (PDT)
  • Enumclaw Safeway parking lot, 152 Roosevelt Ave E, Enumclaw, WA

The date is August 29th. Join Charlie Gary for the 23rd running of the Volcano Ride. This year's route is inspired by everything that's happened in 2020. There will be no stops at sit-down-inside restaurants. Please bring with you whatever you would like to consume throughout the day, unless you’re okay with whatever is available at gas stops or carry out places like Subway. Please be aware of statewide mandates to wear masks in public places like Subway and come prepared to succeed in being a good ambassador for the motorcycling community.

Meet in the Safeway parking lot at 152 Roosevelt Ave E in Enumclaw before 9am. I will be there about 8:30am, over next to the gas station, which is on the east end of the parking lot. I will be on a black C-14. Please allow yourself to arrive early enough to get gassed up and be ready to ride at 9am. It's roughly 177.7 miles from the Safeway gas station to the gas station in Packwood. Let me know if that's an issue, and we'll see what we can do to ensure everyone will be able to skip the fun of running out of gas.

We will leave the Enumclaw Safeway parking lot at 9am and head up around Mt. Rainier (volcano #1) on 410 over Chinook Pass and down to the junction with U.S. 12, where we turn back west to go back over White Pass. We’ll take a nice little detour on the south side of U.S. 12 just before White Pass, and then over and down the west side of the pass. When we get to WA 123 we'll go up the hill just because it's a fun road.  Once we reach the top, if anybody wants to call it a day and finish with a Three Pass Blast by returning to Enumclaw via 410 they can split off at the top of Cayuse Pass, but for those who want the complete 2020 route we'll turn around and go back down to 12, which will take us west to Packwood, and the choice of following Skate Creek Road to Elbe, or continuing west on 12 to points beyond. Some may vote to turn south in Randle and brave the frost heaves on FSR25 to see what FSR99 up to Windy Ridge and back is like. Some may want to skip that side trip and  continue on west to Morton and go north on WA7 to Elbe. Either way, Mt. St. Helens (volcano #2) will be visible south of U.S.12, and all roads lead to Elbe, home of Scale Burgers. Takeout is available, and we will ensure no one misses an opportunity to experience Hot Brakes or a good milk shake.

From Elbe we'll continue west, and while riders from King County on north will probably turn north on the Alder Cutoff Rd and go through Eatonville to get home, others in search of the WA7 curves could go further and then use Stringtown Rd. to get over to Eatonville. Riders from Pierce County will probably continue north on WA7 until they get to their turnoff roads to go home. Should be an interesting way to spend the day.
