Complete GPX and PDF files are in the works.

GOOGLE MAPS below are general approximations of the route and GPX. They are only intended for reference and planning.
Please use the GPX's for general routing or base your own route on the Google Maps representation.

Special Note:  HWY 165 leading up Sandia Peak from the north to south is DIRT & GRAVEL from Ocha Springs Road to the Hwy 536 / Hwy 165 intersection (8 miles). Not recommended.  (Dirt & Gravel stretch map) Use Hwy 536 from the south to ride Sandia Crest.

Gilman Tunnels  & Back

Approx. 75 miles, 1.5 hrs  (37 miles, 45 mins each way)
(Always take reasonable breaks and stops during your ride.)

This is a  short but fun ride up to Jemez pueblo and then to the Gilman tunnels. If you’re on a Dual sport bike you can explore further up the road past the tunnels.

As you come into San Ysidrio, stop at the Feed store on the right side. Go into the rooms in the back if you like to see exotic animals (not too alive anymore) .

If you haven’t tried Fry Bread or are already hooked, there are usually vendors at the pueblo.

Sandia Crest  & Back

Approx. 104 miles, 2hrs 20min (52 miles, 1 Hr 9 mins each way)
(Always take reasonable breaks and stops during your ride.)

This is one of the shortest, but best rides. Going up Sandia Peak is our favorite local motorcycle road with so many curves. There is a certain German local COG member that does this almost every Saturday! Take a break at the top, visit the gift store and take in the views from 10,500 feet overlooking ABQ – Santa Fe area.

For one direction you can substitute Hwy 556  for a portion of Hwy 25 & 40, it passes the Sandia Peak Tramway station.

Visit Tinker town museum , Home - Tinkertown Museum, as you turn onto the crest road.

Do NOT take Hwy 165 - it's dirt.
