GOOGLE MAPS below are general approximations of the route and GPX. They are only intended for reference and planning. |
Special Note: HWY 165 leading up Sandia Peak from the north to south is DIRT & GRAVEL from Ocha Springs Road to the Hwy 536 / Hwy 165 intersection (8 miles). Not recommended. (Dirt & Gravel stretch map) Use Hwy 536 from the south to ride Sandia Crest. |
Sandia Crest & Back Approx. 104 miles, 2hrs 20min (52 miles, 1 Hr 9 mins each way) This is one of the shortest, but best rides. Going up Sandia Peak is our favorite local motorcycle road with so many curves. There is a certain German local COG member that does this almost every Saturday! Take a break at the top, visit the gift store and take in the views from 10,500 feet overlooking ABQ – Santa Fe area. For one direction you can substitute Hwy 556 for a portion of Hwy 25 & 40, it passes the Sandia Peak Tramway station. Visit Tinker town museum , Home - Tinkertown Museum, as you turn onto the crest road.
